On the inside I am jumping up and down shrieking with excitement because my client is watching me. Intently.

On the outside my unwavering voice continues singing, my fingers steady on the guitar, my eyes have met and held their interested gaze, their warm smile has re-ignited mine. My music therapist hat is on, and things evolve.

'Keeping communities in mind' was the theme for Music Therapy Week this year, run by Music Therapy New Zealand (MThNZ).

It's a privilege to be a part of this profession and community of registered music therapists and music therapy advocates and supporters. Some of us united to celebrate through song, and for me this waiata embodies and nurtures well-being, whatever that is for you.
